4 killed in road mishaps in 4 dists

Four people were killed and eight injured in separate road accidents in Chatmohar Upazila of Pabna District and Gopalganj, Naogaon and Madaripur districts in two days.

CHATMOHAR, PABNA: An auto van driver was killed and four others were seriously injured in a head-on collision with a maize-laden trolley in Chatmohar Upazila of the district on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased was Torab Ali, 60, of Dharail Village in Haripur Union. 

Police said the accident occurred near Dharail Bridge when the trolley, travelling from Jonail in Baraigram Upazila of Natore District toward Chatmohar, collided with Ali’s passenger-carrying auto van heading in the opposite direction. Ali died on the spot. The injured passengers, trolley driver and helper were taken to Chatmohar Upazila Health Complex and Pabna Medical College Hospital.

Police recovered Ali’s body and sent it to Pabna Medical College Hospital for an autopsy, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chatmohar Police Station (PS) M Oliur Rahman said.

GOPALGANJ: A 35-year-old man was killed on Tuesday morning after a truck lost control, struck a tree and plunged into a roadside ditch on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Muksudpur Upazila of the district.

The truck, travelling from Dhaka to Gopalganj, crashed in the Dakkhin Chandibordi area. Fire fighters rescued the injured man, identified as Subal Das, son of Pradip Das of Itagacha Village in Satkhira District, and took him to Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead. Muksudpur PS OC Abdul-Al-Mamun said the body will be handed over to his family after legal formalities.

NAOGAON: A 40-year-old charger-van driver was killed after a speeding passenger bus ran over his vehicle on the Naogaon-Rajshahi regional highway in Manda Upazila of the district on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred around 9 am on the Sabaihat-Sindurpania Bridge. Police said the bus, identified as Gita Paribahan, struck the charger van and fled the scene. The driver, Faruk Hossain, son of late Abdur Rahman of Mangalpur Village in Bagmara Upazila of Rajshahi District, died at the spot. Police recovered the body and took it into custody. 

Manda PS OC Khorshed Alam said an unnatural death case is being prepared, and the body will be handed over to the family after legal procedures.

MADARIPUR: A 15-year-old girl, Rafia Akter, was killed on Monday when a passenger bus collided with a three-wheeler in Rajoir Upazila of the district. Four people, including Rafia’s mother and younger sister, were injured.

The accident occurred around noon in the Boulgram area on the Dhaka-Barishal highway. Rafia, daughter of Monir Hawlader of Tribhagdi Village in Madaripur Sadar Upazila, her mother, Sanjida Begum, younger sister Tabassum Akhter and others were travelling from Madaripur to Tekerhat Port in Rajoir in the three-wheeler when it collided with a Khan Paribahan bus travelling in the opposite direction.

Rescuers took the injured to Rajoir Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared Rafia dead.
