Why I moved into an old flat

I bought a new flat in Dhaka Udyan because I thought it would be a good place for my family. At that time, I was happy to have a new flat. I thought the area would develop gradually and become a good residential neighbourhood.

But after some time, I realised that the area was not developing as I had expected.
My computer business centre is in the Elephant Road area. From Dhaka Udyan, it was quite far. I had to spend a lot of time travelling to and from my business. Gradually, I found that the location was not convenient for me.

My children also study in a residential school in Mohammadpur. Taking them to school and bringing them back from Dhaka Udyan was another problem. It took a lot of time and made our daily routine difficult.

There were also mosquito problems in the area. I was also concerned about security. Since I have a family and children, security is very important to me. I did not feel fully comfortable living there.

At one point, I realised that having a new flat was not enough. If the location does not suit your work, children’s school and daily life, then a new flat does not give you much benefit.

So, I decided to rent out the flat in Dhaka Udyan. I then bought an older flat on Iqbal Road in Mohammadpur.

The main reason for choosing the old flat was the location and law price. Iqbal Road is much more convenient for my family. My children’s school, my business-related travel and many other necessary facilities are easier to reach from here.

The area is already developed. There are markets, shops, schools, hospitals, restaurants and transport facilities nearby. I do not have to wait for the neighbourhood to develop.

Of course, buying an old flat also has some problems. You have to look at the condition of the building. There can be problems with plumbing, electrical wiring, lift, water supply or other facilities. Sometimes renovation is also necessary. But I was ready to accept these things because location was more important to me.

When I bought the new flat, I mainly thought about having a new home. Now I think differently. Before buying a flat, you have to think about your everyday life.

How far is your workplace? How will your children go to school? Are markets and hospitals nearby? Is the area safe? How is the transport system? These things are very important.

A new flat may have modern facilities, but if the location is inconvenient, those facilities may not be enough.
In my case, the old flat is working better for my family. I am not saying that an old flat is always better than a new one. It depends on the person and the location.

But from my own experience, I have learned that a good location can sometimes be more important than a new building.
