Why Rifat Chowdhury returned Zayed Khan’s money

Poet and actor Rifat Chowdhury has returned Tk 10,000 sent by actor Zayed Khan for his medical treatment, saying he was not informed about the financial assistance beforehand.
Rifat has been undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for several days. Zayed, who is currently in the United States, reportedly sent the money to a journalist for Rifat’s treatment.
Rifat said he had heard that Zayed had sent some money for him through someone, but nobody gave him the money or informed him about it.
The money was eventually taken to Rifat on Saturday. However, he declined to accept it, citing personal reasons.
Rifat had earlier told the media that Zayed had not provided him with any financial assistance and that nobody had confirmed the matter to him.
Rifat was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on September 14 with health complications. He has long been suffering from problems with his legs and waist, as well as breathing difficulties, chest pain, insomnia and severe weakness.
After being admitted, he had to stay on the hospital floor for several days due to a lack of beds. He was moved to a cabin on the night of September 21.
Rifat has been involved in poetry and acting since the 1980s. His first poetry collection, Alingoner Naam, was published in 1984. He has reportedly published 29 books during his four-decade literary career.
He became known for several popular acting roles, including the character Jatiyo Kaka in the drama Sixty Nine. He also acted in the films Bachelor and Meherjaan.
