Dr. Tasnim Zara slams attack on Mirpur Healthcare Center

Following late-night vandalism and demolition at the Radda MCH-FP center in Mirpur-1, prominent physician Dr. Tasnim Zara has presented four critical questions to the government regarding public safety, law enforcement's role, illegal land grabbing, and national immunization efforts.
The health center, which has provided low-cost maternal and child healthcare services to disadvantaged families in Mirpur for five decades, was ransacked and flattened by a masked mob armed with heavy machinery on Thursday night.
In a social media statement, Dr. Zara expressed deep concern over the medical impact of the incident, pointing out that government-supplied Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) vaccines removed from cold storage are now unusable, and missing vaccination registers will leave workers unable to track critical follow-up doses for local children.
She noted that the attack disrupted a scheduled Measles-Rubella vaccination drive and resulted in the theft of two ultrasonography machines essential for low-income pregnant women.
Dr. Zara subsequently presented four direct questions to the authorities:
Role of Law Enforcement: She questioned why police failed to intervene, noting that nearly 200 people used heavy machinery to demolish the center barely one kilometer from a police station over an extended period, despite staff contacting law enforcement during the attack.
Accountability on Land Grabbing: Citing media reports that previous land-grabbing attempts resurfaced following recent political shifts, she asked why land grabbers feel emboldened and demanded judicial prosecution rather than political patronage.
Pattern of Illegal Occupations: She questioned whether this reflects a broader pattern, citing similar recent land and property seizures across Kuakata, Lalmonirhat, and Narayanganj, asking if the government plans to enforce full legal consequences rather than relying on party expulsions and official statements.
Impact on National Healthcare: She highlighted that the destruction of state-supplied vaccines and official records represents a direct strike against the national immunization program, asking what immediate measures the Ministry of Health will take to locate affected children and resume vaccinations.
Police have arrested four suspects in connection with the attack, while investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
