Court police constable arrested with 1,790 yaba tablets

A police constable assigned to the drug disposal section of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court has been arrested with 1,790 yaba tablets, police said Monday.

The arrested, Md Rezaul Karim is a constable of the court’s evidence disposal section. He was detained in Sutrapur on Sunday night and 1,790 yaba tablets were seized from his possession.

DMP Inspector Md Kamruzzaman filed a case against him with Sutrapur Police Station on Monday. The prosecution department said Rezaul could be taken on remand for interrogation.

According to the FIR, a CID Dhaka Metro-South team raided a restaurant in Ward 28 of Sutrapur following a tip-off. Rezaul allegedly tried to flee but was caught.

A search of his trouser pocket led to the recovery of the tablets, weighing 179 grams and estimated to be worth Tk 5.37 lakh. Police also seized Tk 5,500 in suspected drug-sale proceeds and a Vivo smartphone from him.
