World Tourism Day 2026 was observed across Bangladesh on Sunday with colourful programmes highlighting the role of digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) in reshaping the tourism sector. This year’s global theme was “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” with El Salvador hosting the official international observance.
In Bangladesh, the national programme began with a colourful rally from Parjatan Bhaban in Agargaon, followed by a bicycle procession. The Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation also organised a guided city tour for underprivileged children.
The national celebrations will continue until October 3 with stakeholder meetings, discussions with foreign diplomats, exhibitions and cultural programmes. The concluding event will be held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka. Twelve thematic stalls will showcase Bangladeshi cuisine, GI products, traditional crafts, textiles, cultural heritage and tourist destinations, including AI-based virtual destination experiences.
Meanwhile, Sajek Valley in Rangamati observed World Tourism Day for the first time through a special programme organised by the Rangamati Hill District Council under the supervision of the Cottage and Resort Owners Association of Sajek, with support from the Bangladesh Tourism Board and Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation.
The Sajek programme featured a road show from Rangamati to Sajek, followed by a colourful procession from the entry point to Zero Point showcasing the traditional attire and cultures of local communities.
