Bosnia Defeats Romania 4-2 in UEFA Nations League Match

Bosnia and Herzegovina secured a 4-2 victory over Romania in a UEFA Nations League Group B4 match played behind closed doors at the National Arena on Monday.

The visitors took an early lead in the 12th minute when Armin Gigovic capitalized on a cross from Esmir Bajraktarevic following a defensive miscommunication between Andrei Burca and goalkeeper Ionut Radu. Tarik Muharemovic doubled Bosnia's advantage in the 19th minute by heading in a corner kick delivered by Arjan Basic.

Romania temporarily narrowed the margin in the 28th minute after Daniel Birligea headed home a cross from Eissat. However, Bosnia restored their two-goal cushion in the 40th minute when Haris Tabakovic converted a rebound after Radu blocked a shot from Eris Alajbegovic.

The visiting side expanded their lead to 4-1 ten minutes into the second half as Ermin Mahmic converted another delivery from Bajraktarevic. Alexandru Cicaldau scored Romania's second goal in the 62nd minute with a long-range strike that bounced directly in front of the Bosnian goalkeeper.

Romania had a late effort disallowed in the 88th minute when Birligea's strike was ruled out after Louis Munteanu was caught in an offside position. The host nation attempted to push forward in the closing minutes, but Bosnia held on through three minutes of stoppage time to secure all three points. The result marks Bosnia's third consecutive victory against Romania following two previous wins in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. Romania now remains at zero points after two group matches under head coach Gheorghe Hagi, having previously suffered a 2-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening fixture.

Bosnia moved to four points in Group B4 following the win, adding to the point earned from their goalless draw against Poland in the opening round. UEFA required the match at the National Arena to be played without spectators following disciplinary sanctions imposed on the Romanian Football Federation.
