Milon makes surprise visit to printing press, inspects textbook quality

Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon inspected six printing presses in Dhaka late Monday (September 28) night to verify the quality of textbooks for the 2027 academic session.

The minister conducted spot checks after midnight, examining sample books and inspecting paper and printing quality directly on the factory floors, according to a press release from the Ministry of Education.

The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has undertaken an initiative to print over 30.92 crore textbooks for the 2027 academic year, with printing operations currently running at full capacity.

NCTB Member (Textbook) Professor Mohammad Abu Naser Tuku assured that textbook production is on track and expressed confidence that all books will reach students nationwide by January 1, 2027.

According to NCTB sources, a total of 30,92,28,439 copies of textbooks will be printed for pre-primary, primary, ebtedayee, secondary, and ethnic minority students, at a total government expenditure of Tk 1,890.16 crore.

The allocation includes 8.21 crore copies for pre-primary and primary students, 3.32 crore copies for ebtedayee students, nearly 18 crore copies for secondary grades, and 9,004 braille books for visually impaired students.

The 2027 academic curriculum will feature new subjects, including "Sports" and "Our Culture" for Class IV, alongside "Joyful Education" and "Technical Education" for Class VI.
