Pori Moni skips court, prosecution seeks bail cancellation

A Dhaka court has deferred the hearing on framing charges against actress Pori Moni and two others in a narcotics case until November 17 after she failed to appear due to leg pain. The prosecution has sought cancellation of her bail.

Judge Md Robiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-10 set the new date on Tuesday. Pori Moni’s lawyer Nilanjana Rifat Surbhi sought an adjournment, saying her leg pain had suddenly worsened after an earlier injury, making it difficult for her to walk.

Prosecutor Mohammad Moazzem Hossain opposed the plea and sought cancellation of Pori Moni’s bail and an order to frame charges. He also opposed accepting her appearance through her lawyer.

The court granted the adjournment and fixed November 17 for the charge-framing hearing. The other two accused, Pori Moni’s manager Ashraful Islam Dipu and her uncle Kabir Hossain Hawladar, appeared before the court.

The case was filed after the Rapid Action Battalion reported recovering alcohol and drugs from Pori Moni’s residence in Banani on August 4, 2021. The Criminal Investigation Department later submitted a charge sheet against the three accused.

The court ordered the charge-framing hearing in the case to resume after the High Court had earlier stayed proceedings against Pori Moni for three months.
