New York Times executive shot dead in California

A 40-year-old New York Times engineering executive was fatally shot at a sports complex in Dublin, California, with police arresting his in-laws on suspicion of murder.

Jonathan McKinsey, director of engineering for New York Times Games, was found with multiple gunshot wounds at Dublin Sports Grounds on Saturday and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police arrested his in-laws, Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, both 77, near the scene. Authorities have not disclosed a motive, while court records show McKinsey and his estranged wife had been involved in domestic violence and custody disputes.

McKinsey and his wife had filed for protective orders against each other in 2025. He was also facing child abuse charges, which he denied.
