Five found dead in five districts

Five people were found dead in separate incidents in Daulatpur Upazila of Kushtia District, Gangachara Upazila of Rangpur District, Gopalganj District, Nageshwari Upazila of Kurigram District and Sonargaon Upazila of Narayanganj District on Wednesday.

DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA: Police recovered the decomposed body of 27-year-old Raja, son of Abdur Razzaq Ali Biswas of Piarpur Village, from a roadside field in Kamlapur Taltala on Wednesday, two days after he went missing.

Farmers heading to the field to harvest chilli saw jackals dragging the body and informed Daulatpur police. Unable to identify the decomposed remains, police sought help from the CID Jhenaidah team, which confirmed the victim’s identity.

Raja disappeared on September 28, and his father filed a missing-person complaint the following day, local Union Parishad (UP) Member Jony Zoardar said.

Additional Superintendent of Police Delwar Hossain said police suspect Raja was abducted and killed. The body was sent to the Kushtia Medical College morgue for an autopsy.

GANGACHARA, RANGPUR: A 32-year-old mother of two, Ayesha Siddika alias Jyoti, was found dead at her home in Gangachara Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning amid allegations of domestic abuse.

Police recovered her body from her home in Pakuria Sharif Pirpara Village and sent it to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Jyoti’s family alleged that her husband, Shahidul Islam Lebu, 38, and mother-in-law, Hasna Banu, 60, had subjected her to physical and mental abuse since her marriage, including over dowry. They said repeated complaints had been made to local union parishad members, who attempted several times to resolve the dispute.

Jyoti left behind an eight-month-old son and a four-and-a-half-year-old daughter. Her family has called for a full investigation and legal action against those responsible.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangachara Model Police Station (PS) Abdus Sabur said an unnatural death case had been filed. He said further legal action would follow based on the autopsy report, investigation and any formal complaint from the family.

GOPALGANJ: Police on Wednesday recovered the hanging body of an 18-year-old shop employee from an abandoned rice mill in the Sadar Upazila’s Ulpur area.

The victim, Imam Reza, a native of Barishal who lived with his mother in Ulpur Purbapara and worked at a local sari shop, was found with his belt tied to a window frame.

Police recovered the body in the morning following information from locals and sent it to the 250-bed Gopalganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

While investigators stated the cause of death remains unconfirmed pending autopsy results, family members alleged that Reza was murdered and his body was subsequently strung up at the abandoned site, citing multiple injuries and bloodstains found on the corpse. 

NAGESHWARI, KURIGRAM: A 75-year-old man who went missing in Nageshwari Upazila of the district was found dead in a branch river a day later, police said on Wednesday.

The body of Nasir Uddin, son of Kepat Ullah of the Gachhpari WAPDA Bazar area, was recovered from Berubari Chhara in Paschim Mowamari of Berubari Union around 11 am.

Locals said Nasir left home on Tuesday afternoon and did not return. Police recovered the body after residents spotted it floating in the water and took it to the police station at about 2:45 pm.

Nageshwari PS OC Enamul Haque Pradhan said the body was sent for an autopsy.
 
UP Chairman Solaiman Ali said Nasir was reportedly suffering from mental health problems.

SONARGAON, NARAYANGANJ: Police recovered the body of a 23-year-old man, identified as Md Habibullah Sheikh alias Nasim, from a roadside area in Sonargaon Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning. Police said he had a sharp-weapon injury on the right side of his chest.

The body was found around 6:30 am beside the Olympic Biscuit factory in the Lolati area along the Asian Highway (Dhaka Bypass) in Kanchpur. Police identified Habibullah through an ID card found in his pocket, and his younger sister, Mili Akter, later confirmed his identity.

Habibullah, the son of Mosharraf Hossain of Deobhog in Narayanganj, had been missing since Tuesday night. He had left home without telling his family and did not return. 

Sonargaon PS OC Muhammad Abdul Barik said police sent the body to the Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Legal proceedings are underway, he said.
