BFIU seeks bank info of Salman Muqtadir

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has sought information and transaction details of the bank accounts of Salman Mohammad Muqtadir, a familiar face on social media.

In an email sent to various banks in the country, the BFIU asked them to provide information on Muqtadir’s accounts, Account Opening Forms (AOFs), Know Your Customer (KYC) information and account statements.

The email, sent at 10:38 am on Wednesday, instructed the banks concerned to provide the information on an urgent basis, mentioning Salman Mohammad Muqtadir by name. It also stated that the message was of high priority.

In the message, the BFIU asked the concerned banks to provide soft copies of the KYC information and account statements for accounts held in Salman Muqtadir’s name.

The banks were also instructed to fill in an attached Excel file with all information relating to his accounts, including details of interest income and Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) for each identified account, and send the completed file to the BFIU.

The banks were directed to send the information through the goAML Message Board within one hour. At the same time, they were instructed to maintain confidentiality of the information, citing the relevant provision of a BFIU circular.

The BFIU message was sent to various banks across the country. The list of recipients included several state-owned, private and foreign banks.

Recently, the vandalism of the office of content creator Salman Mohammad Muqtadir triggered widespread reactions on social media. A group of miscreants entered his office and vandalised various items.

The attack took place at around 10:30 pm last Saturday at Muqtadir’s office located at New Guinea Properties in the ECB Chattar area of the capital.

Later that night, Salman Muqtadir posted a video in which he was heard saying, “This video has been made especially for our Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed. Please do not take any tension. This is normal in Bangladesh.”
