Bangladesh’s hopes of winning the men’s cricket gold medal at the Asian Games ended after a six-wicket semifinal defeat to Pakistan on Thursday.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Bangladesh posted 111 for seven in their allotted 13 overs at Aichi Prefectural Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. The Tigers were in early trouble after losing three wickets for 21 runs.
Towhid Hridoy led the recovery with a quick 42 off 25 balls, including two fours and four sixes. Saif Hassan scored 19, while Mehedi Hasan remained unbeaten on eight off four balls.
Pakistan chased down the target in 11.3 overs, reaching 112 for four. Abdul Samad finished unbeaten on 30 off 15 balls, while Hasan Nawaz made 27 off 22.
The defeat ended Bangladesh’s campaign in the semifinal and ruled them out of contention for the gold medal.
