The reserved women’s seat No. 23 in parliament has been declared vacant following the resignation of BNP lawmaker Ferdousi Ahmed Misty on Thursday (October 1).
A notification issued by the Law Making Branch-2 of the Legislative Support Wing of the Parliament Secretariat on Thursday said the seat became vacant on October 1 under Article 67(2) of the Constitution after Misty resigned as a member of parliament.
Misty submitted her resignation to the Speaker at noon on Thursday following an instruction from Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.
Her name came up in connection with the alleged attack and vandalism at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur, Dhaka, last Thursday. Allegations were also raised over the involvement of leaders and activists of the ruling party at different levels in the incident.
Following the allegations, the prime minister instructed Misty to resign from parliament.
