The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for submitting online VAT returns for the July and August 2026 tax periods to October 15.
The order was signed by Sheikh Md Masudur Rahman, Second Secretary of the VAT Monitoring, Statistics and Coordination wing of the NBR. The NBR issued the order under Section 64(3) of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012. The extension applies to businesses that have not submitted their VAT returns through the e-VAT system. No penalty will be imposed on businesses that submit the returns within the extended deadline.
According to the order, changes to VAT return rules in the national budget for fiscal year 2026-27 allow businesses to submit returns after the end of three tax periods. As a result, some businesses did not submit their July and August 2026 VAT returns through the e-VAT system.
Under the new order, businesses that have not submitted their returns for the two months can do so by October 15 without facing a penalty. The NBR also said that, where applicable, the concerned businesses must submit their VAT returns for July, August and September 2026 through the e-VAT system by the same deadline.
