The LPG Operators Association of Bangladesh (LOAB) has instructed all its member companies, distributors, dealers and retailers to sell liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders at prices fixed by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC).

In a press statement issued on Thursday, LOAB said the directive followed a meeting between the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and leaders of the association on September 28, chaired by the minister, where the country’s LPG supply and price situation was discussed in detail.

According to LOAB, Bangladesh imported 156,000 metric tonnes (MT) of LPG in September, compared with 158,000 MT in August. The association said the current level of imports was satisfactory and sufficient to meet market demand.

“Given the adequate supply, there is no scope for an artificial shortage in the LPG market,” the association said.

LOAB warned that if any LPG operator, distributor, dealer or retailer sells cylinders above the BERC-fixed price or engages in unauthorised stockpiling, such practices would constitute violations of existing laws.
