Customs officials detained a Biman Bangladesh Airlines employee and a passenger after seizing around 1.05kg of gold worth nearly Tk 2 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
The airport unit of Dhaka Customs House searched Biman employee Obaidur Rahman with assistance from AVSEC at around 11:20 PM on Thursday.
During the search, nine gold bars wrapped in tissue paper were recovered from the pockets of his shirt and his waist belt.
The seized gold weighed 1,049.40 grammes, or around 1.05kg, and was valued at approximately Tk 2 crore.
Following initial questioning, customs officials detained a passenger based on information provided by Obaidur over alleged involvement in the incident.
Legal proceedings against those involved are underway under the Customs Act 2023 and other relevant laws.
