National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam has said workers' ongoing movement is justified and cannot be dismissed as a conspiracy, blaming the government’s lack of proper planning for the situation.
He made the remarks on Tuesday (November 3) before a meeting organised by the NCP's Pabna district unit to review organisational progress and discuss plans for local government elections.
Nahid said if any elements of the ousted fascist forces had infiltrated the movement and attempted to create disorder, the government would also be responsible due to failures in intelligence activities.
He accused the government of using intelligence agencies to suppress the opposition while failing to present information about those responsible for killing people and fleeing to India.
He also criticised the government’s handling of public protests, saying movements would only end if people had confidence in the government. He claimed the government had broken its pre-election commitments and betrayed the mandate of 70 per cent of voters.
Commenting on the latest LPG price hike, Nahid said cylinder gas prices had risen again, warning that prices in the open market could increase further. He urged people to take to the streets to hold the government accountable.
