Woori Bank celebrates 30 years of operations in Bangladesh

Bangladesh and the Republic of Korea should further strengthen cooperation in investment, trade and cultural exchange, said Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury at a ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of Woori Bank’s operations in Bangladesh.

The milestone event brought together senior representatives from the Government of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Bank, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, the banking and financial sector, and leading businesses. Woori Bank President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jin Wan Jung travelled to Bangladesh to join the anniversary celebrations.

The event opened with welcome remarks by Jin Hur, Country Manager of Woori Bank Bangladesh. 

The event was attended by Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Finance and Planning Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, as the chief guest, says a press release. 

Governor of Bangladesh Bank Md Mostaqur Rahman, attended as the special guest. Distinguished guests included Ji Joon Kim, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Bangladesh, and Jonghyuk Choi, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Youngone Corporation.

Representing Woori Bank were Jin Wan Jung, President and CEO,Jin Hur, Country Manager of Woori Bank Bangladesh, and other senior officials.

Speaking as the chief guest, Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said Woori Bank’s three decades of presence in Bangladesh had helped establish an important financial bridge between Bangladesh and Korea.

“Now is the time to expand cooperation beyond investment and trade into promising areas such as culture, information technology, electronics and cosmetics,” he said.

The minister noted that Korea is a global leader in sectors including ICT, electronics and cosmetics, and said Bangladesh expects greater Korean investment in these areas. He also said the Government of Bangladesh attaches significant importance to relations with Korea and that several high-level Bangladeshi delegations are expected to visit Korea in the near future.

The event was attended by senior government representatives, senior officials of Bangladesh Bank, representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, distinguished figures from the banking and financial sectors, leading business and corporate representatives, business partners, and other invited guests.
