A Jamaat-e-Islami leader in Kamarkhand has lost his organisational membership and post after being fined for illegally stockpiling 18 sacks of urea fertiliser.
Monirul Islam, nayeb-e-ameer-2 of Kamarkhand upazila Jamaat-e-Islami, was fined Tk25,000 after the upazila administration raided his fertiliser warehouse at Chhoto Dhopakandi village in Bhadraghat Union on Thursday night. The 18 sacks of urea found in the warehouse were also seized in favour of the government.
The raid was conducted around 10:30PM under the leadership of Kamarkhand Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Mamun. Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Farid Hossain, Kamarkhand Police Station OC Md Hashmat Ali and police personnel were present.
Sirajganj district Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary Md Shahidul Islam confirmed the organisational action at 11AM on Sunday, saying Monirul’s rukniyat (full membership) had been cancelled. As rukniyat is required for holding the organisational post, Monirul can no longer serve as nayeb-e-ameer-2 of the upazila unit.
