The Green Party of England and Wales has voted to officially classify Zionism as a form of racism during its annual conference, sparking sharp criticism from Jewish groups, the ruling Labour Party, and the Israeli government.
The anti-Zionist resolution passed on Sunday with 1,022 votes in favor and 813 against. Under the adopted motion, the party declared that Zionism will be treated like any other form of racism and expressed full support for establishing a single, democratic state of Palestine across historic Palestine.
Because Zionism centers on maintaining a Jewish state in the region, the decision effectively rejects the two-state framework in favor of replacing Israel with a unified Palestinian state, as noted by Israeli media outlet The Times of Israel.
The Green Party currently holds five seats in the UK Parliament and gained substantial support in recent local elections, largely by appealing to voters dissatisfied with the Labour government's stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
