President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged young people to become more involved in business and trade.
He made the call on Monday (October 5) when a 21-member delegation led by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) President Taskin Ahmed paid a courtesy call on the president at Bangabhaban.
Urging businesses to come forward to develop alternative energy systems quickly, the president said young entrepreneurs need to be more involved in the competition surrounding the Fourth Industrial Revolution, digital transformation, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
He also stressed the need to reduce bank interest rates to facilitate the expansion of business and trade.
The president said people in the country have repeatedly struggled, fought and sacrificed their lives for democracy. However, he said, the country failed to institutionalise democracy after achieving it because political parties misused the benefits of democracy.
He said the country had fallen behind in the past due to the establishment of a system of looting, which brought business and trade to a standstill. He added that the banking sector was also destroyed because of personal greed.
The president also urged businesspeople to play a greater role in social development and welfare activities.
The president’s Military Secretary, Secretary and Press Secretary, along with members of the DCCI delegation, were present during the meeting.
