Dhaka topped the list of the world’s most polluted cities on Tuesday morning, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) score of 234, according to Swiss-based air quality monitoring platform IQAir.
The capital’s air was classified as “very unhealthy”. Kolkata ranked second with an AQI of 198, followed by Kuala Lumpur at 191, Delhi at 186 and Jakarta at 162.
An AQI score of 201–300 is considered “very unhealthy”. At this level, breathing the air can cause health problems, especially for children, older people and those with breathing difficulties.
IQAir’s ranking can change throughout the day as air quality conditions change.
