Security heightened at BRAC Univ following bomb threat

Security measures have been significantly intensified at BRAC University following an anonymous mass bomb threat sent via email, with law enforcement personnel conducting thorough searches before allowing students onto campus on Tuesday (October 6).

Police officers were deployed around the university campus in Badda from early Tuesday morning to ensure campus safety. Kazi Md. Nasirul Amin, Officer-in-Charge of Badda Police Station, confirmed that adequate force has been stationed at the site, with suspicious individuals undergoing security checks, adding that the overall situation remains under control.

The security backlash follows an email received at 6:44 PM on Sunday, October 4, sent from an account named "Topical Chinese Man." The message threatened to execute a mass bomb attack targeting the university campus at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 6.

In response, BRAC University authorities immediately alerted law enforcement agencies and forwarded the email to relevant security wings.

The university's public relations department released a statement emphasizing that the administration is treating the threat with the utmost seriousness, coordinating closely with police, and prioritizing the safety of all students, faculty, and staff.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Gulshan Division) Mohammad Ruhul Kabir Khan reassured the public, stating that there is no cause for panic as initial assessments suggest it is not a high-risk potential threat.

A general diary (GD) has been filed at Badda Police Station, and the Cyber Crime Division of the Detective Branch (DB) has launched an investigation to trace the source of the email.
