Dear Sir,
Birth registration is the first official recognition of a citizen’s identity. Yet many people face complications while obtaining this essential document. Even a minor error in the spelling of a name, date of birth, parents’ information or address can force applicants to visit relevant offices repeatedly for correction. Lengthy verification procedures, online application problems and correction delays waste valuable time and increase people’s expenses and suffering.
Students, job seekers and those planning to travel abroad are particularly affected by inconsistencies in birth registration records. A minor error can create further complications when matching information with the National Identity Card, passport, academic certificates and other important documents.
Birth registration is a citizen’s right, not a source of harassment. Therefore, correction and verification procedures should be made simpler, faster and more transparent. Effective help desks should be established at union, municipal and city corporation levels, while online service complications must also be addressed. A citizen-friendly registration system can reduce unnecessary harassment and make public services more accessible.
