Iran will not abandon its right to enrich uranium or surrender its nuclear stockpiles despite pressure and threats from the United States, Iranian Atomic Energy Organization chief Mohammad Eslami has said.
Eslami described uranium enrichment as an essential component of Iran's peaceful nuclear programme, saying the activities are conducted under international safeguards in line with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
“Once again, the issue of uranium enrichment has been raised, and it has been said that it should be put on the agenda for negotiations. But enrichment is an inseparable part of the nuclear process,” Eslami said.
He also accused the United States of making misleading claims about Iran's nuclear activities.
“Even the Americans have made nuclear technology a priority in their national development, national security, and national defence documents,” he said, adding that such claims were “deception and lies.”
