Canadian poet and writer Anne Carson has won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature for her bold and inventive body of work that engages playfully with classical traditions and creates new forms of contemporary literature.
The Swedish Academy announced the award on Thursday (October 8), recognising Carson’s genre-defying work that blends poetry, prose, dialogue and translation.
Carson, whose work is heavily influenced by classical Greek literature, is known for combining poetry, essays and fiction. Her notable works include 'Eros the Bittersweet', 'Autobiography of Red' and 'Norma Jeane Baker of Troy'.
She has also translated classical Greek texts, with her literary work ranging from verse novels and poetry to opera librettos and literary criticism.
