Bangladesh sent a total of 432,786 workers to various countries around the world in a period of just over seven months, according to official data.
The disclosure was made on Thursday (October 8) during the first meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with committee chairman AKM Fazlul Haque Milon in the chair.
Ministry statistics presented at the meeting revealed that 432,786 workers—including 36,590 female workers—left Bangladesh for overseas employment between February 18 and September 30 this year.
During the same period, the country received 24.75 billion US dollars in expatriate remittances, reflecting an increase of approximately 2.80 billion US dollars compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
Committee members including Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury, State Minister Md Nurul Haque, Golam Mohammad Siraj, Md Jasim Uddin, Rafiqul Islam Hilali, Nasir Uddin Ahmed, Md Anwarul Islam, and Abul Kawsar Mohammad Nazrul Islam attended the meeting.
