Autumn brings crisp blue skies, floating white clouds, a gentle nip in the air, and fields of swaying catkins (kashful). Even amidst the capital’s concrete hustle, a short journey beyond the city limits reveals serene, white-cloaked meadows perfect for a refreshing afternoon retreat.

The shimmering white blooms currently blanket open fields, riverbanks, and wetlands across the capital's fringes, with Uttara Diabari, Aftabnagar, and Keraniganj’s Sarighat offering prime vantage points.

Diabari: Catkins by the Lake Breeze

For a quick getaway, Diabari in Uttara Sectors 15 and 16 presents vast open fields covered in white catkins. Visitors can stroll through the paths, capture photos, and enjoy the lakeside breeze.

Boat rides are available near the Bridge 3 embankment, complemented by nearby food stalls. Travel is effortless via the Dhaka Metro Rail by alighting at Uttara Centre or Uttara North stations.

Aftabnagar: A Quiet Escape within the City

Located near Rampura, Aftabnagar offers open spaces dotted with catkins under the soft afternoon sunlight. As much of the area comprises undeveloped plots, checking local routes and safety before exploring is advisable.

Purbachal and 300 Feet: Catkin’s Enchanting Dances

Heading down the 300-Feet Expressway from Kuril Bishwa Road toward Purbachal reveals vast horizons where white catkins dance beneath expansive autumn skies. Visitors are urged to choose safe spots away from the busy main road while taking photographs.

Ashulia and Birulia: Scenic Drives and River Cruises

The route along the Mirpur Beribandh toward Ashulia combines scenic road trips with viewings of catkin-lined wetlands. Nearby Birulia, nestled along the Turag River, offers the added charm of boat rides past green banks and floating blooms.

Sarighat and Bosila: Riverside Havens

In South Keraniganj, Sarighat presents a striking landscape where rivers, lush greenery, and white catkins converge. Across the Bosila Bridge toward Washpur and Ghatarchar, riverside plots offer tranquil afternoon spots, though visitors should respect private property boundaries.

Best Time to Visit

The peak season for catkins spans mid-September through late October, though rain and wind can affect their delicate blooms. Late afternoons offer comfortable lighting for walks and photography. Visitors are encouraged to leave the fields undisturbed so this fleeting seasonal beauty can be enjoyed by all.
