Popular Tollywood actress Madhumita Sarcar enjoys celebrating Durga Puja by hitting the streets of Kolkata with her friends. This year’s Puja is particularly special for her as it is her first Durga Puja after marriage. However, rather than pandal-hopping with her husband, the actress prefers going out with friends to enjoy the festivities.
As a celebrity, Madhumita often risks being recognised by fans whenever she steps outside. She has therefore learned ways to blend into the crowd and avoid attention. In a recent interview with The Wall, the actress revealed her strategy.
“I can easily blend into a crowd. I don’t look people in the eye. I simply walk while looking down at the ground. After seeing the idols, I quickly leave. During Puja, everyone is busy with themselves, so people don’t notice me easily,” Madhumita said.
However, she does not always manage to avoid attention. Recalling a funny incident, she said that on one occasion, she and her friends left their car parked at one place and walked quite a distance. They later took a bus to return to where the car was parked.
“My friends don’t say anything at first. But just as I am about to get off the bus, one of them suddenly says, ‘That’s not a bird!’ Before the other passengers can understand what is happening, my friends grab my hand and take me off the bus,” she said.
For Madhumita, such experiences of enjoying Puja like an ordinary person while hiding her celebrity identity make the celebrations even more enjoyable.
“So, what’s the fun of Puja without these moments?” she joked.
