KHULNA, Oct 9: State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, MP, said the government is working to ensure development at the grassroots level and improve the economic condition of the people.
“The fisheries and livestock sectors are playing an important role in meeting the nutritional and animal protein needs of the people. More effective initiatives are needed for the development of these sectors,” he said.
The state minister made the remarks while talking to journalists after inspecting the Daulatpur Government Regional Duck Breeding Farm in the city on Thursday afternoon.
Tuku alleged that the previous government had not paid due attention to the sector. “Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has already brought all farmers under the ‘Farmer Card’ programme,” he added.
Tuku said there was ample scope to improve the livelihoods of grassroots people and accelerate economic activities by harnessing the potential of the fisheries and livestock sectors.
After inspecting the farm, the state minister released fish fry into Jilpukur Lake adjacent to Wonderland Park in Khalishpur area of the city.
