Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has instructed schools, colleges and madrasas to reject textbooks that fail to meet quality standards or are supplied in insufficient quantities.
Speaking virtually at a meeting of Bangladesh Jamiatul Modarresin in Dhaka on Saturday, he said institutions must check the quality of paper and binding before accepting books from printers. Printers will receive their outstanding payments only after the books pass quality checks.
The minister said new textbooks would be distributed to students on the first day of their vacation after examinations. He urged educational institutions to ensure they receive the required number of books and reject those that do not meet the specified standards.
Milon also stressed the need to modernise madrasa education by combining religious studies with general education. He said initiatives were underway to transfer MPO-listed teachers and recruit 77,000 new teachers.
