The Eastern University Rover Scout Group organised its third Investiture Camp and Campfire on October 10 at the university campus, bringing together university officials, Scout leaders, teachers and students.

Professor Dr Farid A. Sobhani, vice-chancellor of Eastern University, attended the day-long programme as chief guest. In a notable moment, he himself took the Scout Investiture before the Rover Scouts underwent the ceremony.

Md Omar Ali, commissioner of Dhaka District Rover, Bangladesh Scouts, attended as the chief Scout representative. Special guests included Dr Moha. Akkach Ali Akash, secretary of Dhaka District Rover, and Farhad Hossain, district Rover Scout leader (DRSL).

Nasrin Jahan, secretary of the Rover Scout Group of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology, and Moha. Khurshid Alam, district Rover Scout leader representative of Dhaka District Rover, were also present. Deans, department heads, faculty members, students and university officials attended the event.

Investiture is the formal induction of a member into the Scout Movement, marking a commitment to uphold the Scout Promise and Law and follow the movement’s principles of service, discipline and responsibility.

The camp aimed to familiarise new Rover Scouts with the values and ideals of Scouting while encouraging them to become responsible citizens committed to serving society.

Activities associated with the camp and campfire are designed to develop leadership, teamwork, punctuality, self-reliance and problem-solving skills. Participants also have opportunities to build cooperation and creativity through group activities, tent setup and cultural performances.

The Scout Movement seeks to promote moral values, character development and a spirit of service among young people, encouraging them to contribute to their communities and the country.

The university’s Rover Scout Group expects the annual programme to contribute to students’ personal development and strengthen their leadership, organisational skills and sense of social responsibility.
