A drone attack has forced Russian technology giant Yandex to shut down a data centre in the Vladimir region, disrupting several of its services, including artificial intelligence operations.

The company said on Sunday that its infrastructure had been damaged in the attack, forcing it to suspend operations at the facility. No casualties were reported, but several services were temporarily unavailable or disrupted.

The incident marks the third major attack on Yandex's data centre infrastructure within a few days, according to the report, raising concerns over the impact on the company's technology and AI operations.

On Friday, Yandex reported that a Ukrainian drone had struck its data centre in the Kaluga region, southwest of Moscow, partially disrupting operations.

A day earlier, another major Yandex data hub in Sasovo, southeast of Moscow, was reportedly knocked out of operation following a Ukrainian drone attack.

Two of the three main supercomputers used to develop the company's proprietary AI models were housed at the Sasovo facility.

Yandex is one of Russia's leading technology companies and a major player in AI research. It is often described as “Russia's Google” because of its broad range of digital services.
