Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed authorities to launch loudspeaker campaigns in localities and use Friday sermons to raise public awareness about dengue prevention, as the government steps up efforts to curb the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.

He has also instructed relevant government agencies to work in a coordinated manner to strengthen dengue prevention and control measures.

The directives came at a meeting on dengue prevention and control at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

At the meeting, Tarique Rahman said the next few months would be critical in controlling dengue and called for coordinated action by all relevant government agencies to prevent further transmission.

He particularly emphasised the need to intensify preventive measures in areas reporting high numbers of dengue cases.

The Premier stressed the importance of public participation in dengue prevention, directing officials to arrange regular public awareness announcements through loudspeakers in neighbourhoods.

He also called for arrangements to include dengue prevention messages in Friday prayer sermons, informing worshippers about the steps they can take to reduce the risk of infection.

The initiatives are intended to encourage residents to take preventive action and strengthen community involvement in controlling the disease.

The meeting also decided to ensure that government residential quarters and hospital premises are kept clean and well maintained.

In addition, the prime minister emphasised stronger coordination among the relevant ministries, divisions and government agencies to make dengue prevention activities more effective.

The government is seeking to reinforce public awareness, improve cleanliness and ensure a coordinated response as it prepares for the coming months, which the prime minister described as crucial to containing the outbreak.
