6 more die with measles-like symptoms

In the last 24 hours, six more children have died with symptoms of measles. During the same period, 149 new cases of confirmed measles were detected, while 1,074 patients with suspected measles were identified.

These figures were released on Tuesday (October 13) in a notification regarding measles issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the notification, the 1,074 suspected measles patients identified in the last 24 hours were distributed as follows: 295 in Dhaka Division, 246 in Chattogram, 142 in Sylhet, 132 in Barishal, 126 in Khulna, 72 in Mymensingh, 37 in Rajshahi, and 24 in Rangpur.

Meanwhile, among the confirmed measles cases, 63 were detected in Dhaka Division, 67 in Chattogram, and 9 in Khulna. Of the six children who died with measles symptoms, three were from Dhaka Division, one from Sylhet, and two from Chattogram.

According to DGHS data, 104 people have died from confirmed measles in the country since last March, while 1,066 people have died with symptoms of the disease during the same period.

To date, the total number of confirmed measles cases in the country stands at 22,712, while 207,371 individuals have exhibited symptoms of the disease. Additionally, 184,269 people have been hospitalized with measles symptoms so far; of these, 176,672 have recovered and returned home after treatment.
