Dengue claims another at MMCH

A 46-year-old woman has died of dengue at Mymensingh Medical College (MMC) Hospital, taking the hospital’s dengue death toll to 31 this year. A total of 3,702 dengue patients have been admitted to the hospital since the beginning of the year.
Hospital authorities confirmed the death on Tuesday, October 13. The deceased, Jamina, was the wife of Akikul Islam and hailed from Haluaghat upazila.
According to hospital sources, she was admitted at 10:50 PM on October 8 and died at 4:20 AM on October 13 while undergoing treatment. Preliminary medical reports indicated that she died of cardiac and respiratory failure caused by dengue shock syndrome.
In the 24 hours leading up to Tuesday, 37 new dengue patients were admitted to the hospital, while 66 recovered and returned home.
Currently, 99 dengue patients are receiving treatment at the hospital, including 57 men, 29 women and 13 children.
Dr Md Selim Uddin, assistant focal person for the dengue ward at MMC Hospital, said patients continued to be admitted while many others were recovering and returning home. He urged people to remain cautious and take preventive measures against dengue.
Dr Main Uddin Khan, assistant director (administration) of MMC Hospital, confirmed the death and said the hospital was giving special attention to dengue patients to ensure they received the necessary medical care.
He advised people to seek medical attention promptly if they developed dengue symptoms. He also urged them to go to hospital without delay if they experienced warning signs such as severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding, extreme weakness or shortness of breath.
