Sylhet, one of Bangladesh's major tourist destinations, is ready to welcome visitors during the Durga Puja holidays, with local businesses expecting thousands of tourists to visit the region during the five-day break.
The administration is taking various measures to manage the anticipated influx and ensure the safety of visitors.
Tourists visit Sylhet throughout the year to enjoy its natural beauty. However, visitor numbers rise during festivals and holidays at popular destinations, including tea gardens, Jaflong, Bichnakandi, Sadapathor and Ratargul.
Mishtu Dutta, general manager of Hotel Golden City, said hotels, motels and resorts across Sylhet were prepared to welcome tourists during the Puja holidays. Most rooms at the district's 500 hotels, motels and resorts had already been booked, she added.
Former FBCCI director Falah Uddin Ali said the arrival of tourists would generate additional profits for businesses and further stimulate the district's economy.
Additional Superintendent of Police in Sylhet Shahinur Alam said the administration had taken preparations to ensure visitors could travel safely and without disruption. Security measures would be implemented in coordination with the highway police, he added.
Local businesses expect the tourism sector in Sylhet to generate at least Tk 50 crore in revenue during the five-day Durga Puja holiday period.
