The body of a man was exhumed from a grave in Lohagara upazila of Narail on Wednesday, nearly six months after his burial, following a court order.
The body of Mofizar Mollah was exhumed from Ishangati graveyard around noon on 14 October.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Lohagara upazila Sebak Mondol, investigation officer Sub-Inspector Kumaresh Kumar Biswas and police from Lohagara Police Station were present during the exhumation. The body was later sent to a hospital morgue for an inquest and autopsy.
According to police and local sources, Mofizar was allegedly suffocated with a pillow on the night of 26 April this year. His wife, Fatema Begum, and her *beyai* (a relative by marriage), Moshiar Rahman, were accused of being involved in the killing.
At the time, injuries were reportedly visible around Mofizar’s nose and mouth. However, Fatema told others that he had died of a stroke, after which his body was buried in haste.
A few months later, Fatema reportedly began living in Dhaka with Moshiar, with whom she was allegedly involved in an extramarital relationship.
After the incident came to light, local people detained Fatema and Moshiar on 29 August and handed them over to police. That night, Mofizar’s daughter Monika Begum filed a case with Lohagara Police Station, accusing her mother, Fatema, Moshiar and several unidentified people.
Police subsequently arrested the two accused and produced them before a court. Following their arrest, they allegedly admitted during questioning to killing Mofizar by suffocating him with a pillow.
