7-year-old rescued 15 hours after abduction

Police rescued a seven-year-old boy, Sani, around 15 hours after he was allegedly abducted from West Bhadai Bander Bari area on the outskirts of Habiganj town. His brother-in-law, Jihan, has been detained in connection with the incident.

The child’s mother, Anu Begum, alleged that four to five people entered their house around 3am on October 14 and took Sani away.

After receiving information, Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station launched an operation. Police detained Jihan, who reportedly admitted to taking the child. Acting on his information, police rescued Sani from his sister’s house in Shahapur village of Baniachong upazila on Wednesday evening.

Local sources said a family dispute may have prompted the alleged abduction. Jihan married the child’s maternal aunt about five years ago, but disputes later arose between the couple over financial matters.

Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jahidul Haque confirmed the incident.
