Authorities have indefinitely banned tourist entry to the historic Seema Buddhist Temple in Mishripara, Kuakata, following allegations that its president, Monglachin, was assaulted over a land dispute.
The ban was announced at a protest meeting organised by the local Rakhine community on Wednesday. A written complaint has been filed with Mahipur Police Station.
Temple authorities alleged that locals Shamsul Alam and Nasir Howlader assaulted Monglachin on Tuesday after a dispute over land inside the temple premises.
The Rakhine community demanded a fair investigation and punishment for those responsible, saying tourist entry would remain suspended until justice is ensured.
Mahipur Police Station OC Md Shamim Howlader said a complaint had been received and legal action would follow an investigation.
