Saudi Arabia has executed five of its citizens for terrorism-related crimes, the Interior Ministry said in a statement on Saturday, October 17.
The ministry said the five were involved in joining foreign terrorist organisations, shooting at security forces, their headquarters and police vehicles, possessing illegal weapons and ammunition, and financing and supporting terrorist attacks in Saudi Arabia.
The executed men were identified as Mohammed bin Munir bin Mohammed Al-Zaher, Ali bin Abdir Rabb Al-Hussein Al-Sheikh, Hassan bin Zaki bin Mohammed Al-Faraj, Reda bin Mohammed bin Ali Al Abu Abdullah, and Ali bin Hassan bin Ahmed Al-Ribh. All five were Saudi nationals.
According to the statement, security forces arrested the men and referred them to the judiciary. A court sentenced them to death under the ta'zir system based on the charges. The Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court upheld the verdicts, after which a royal decree was issued to carry out the executions under Sharia law.
The executions were carried out in the Eastern Province on Saturday, the ministry said.
