England women’s football head coach Sarina Wiegman has signed a new contract that will keep her in charge until the end of the 2029 Women’s European Championship.
Under her previous deal, the 56-year-old Dutch coach was due to leave after next year’s Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The new agreement extends her tenure by a further two years.
England have enjoyed considerable success under Wiegman. She guided the Lionesses to their first Women’s Euro title in 2022, beating Germany 2-1 in the final. England subsequently reached the 2023 Women’s World Cup final but lost 1-0 to Spain.
In 2025, Wiegman led England to another European Championship title, defeating Spain to retain the continental crown.
Before taking charge of England, Wiegman guided the Netherlands to the Women’s Euro title in 2017. She has since led England to the 2022 and 2025 European titles and guided her teams to five consecutive major international tournament finals.
Following the contract extension, Wiegman said she was delighted to continue working with England, adding that she could not imagine a better job in football.
Her immediate priority, however, is securing England’s place at next year’s World Cup. The Lionesses must face Ukraine in the second round of the playoffs, with victory over two legs required to qualify for the tournament in Brazil.
Football Association chief executive Mark Bullingham also welcomed the extension, praising Wiegman’s record at major tournaments and her significant contribution to women’s football in England.
