The Election Commission (EC) has warned of disciplinary action against officials who share their user IDs and passwords for the National Identity Card (NID) server with others, citing concerns over the security of sensitive personal information.
EC officials disclosed the warning on Tuesday (October 20), following reports that passwords for the server were available at various photocopy shops.
In a letter, EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed instructed officials not to share the user IDs and passwords used for NID correction activities. He directed that officials would be held personally accountable for any violation of the instruction.
The letter also called for a revised proposal to amend the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to expedite NID correction services.
