Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will undertake an official bilateral visit to Tokyo from October 26 to 29 at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, with both nations set to announce and sign a range of strategic agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).

Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam detailed the schedule and objectives of the Prime Minister's upcoming tour during a press briefing on Tuesday (October 20).

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to hold high-level bilateral talks with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on October 27, the second day of his visit.

The tour itinerary includes engagements with leadership from the Japan-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship League, the Japan-Bangladesh Committee for Commercial and Economic Cooperation (JBCCEC), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, as well as a keynote address at the Japan-Bangladesh Economic Forum.

The Prime Minister is also slated to inspect key industrial facilities, including an LNG terminal and power plant in Futtsu City, Chiba, Fast Retailing's Uniqlo headquarters, and Toyota manufacturing plants in Nagoya.

Foreign Secretary Siam noted that the visit will deepen bilateral relations under the existing 'Strategic Partnership' framework, expanding private investment, accelerating ongoing infrastructure initiatives, and strengthening economic, trade, and defense cooperation.

"Following the signing of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between Bangladesh and Japan in February this year, new avenues for trade and investment expansion have emerged," Foreign Secretary Siam stated. He added that discussions will focus on attracting Japanese manufacturing units to Bangladesh, generating employment, and advancing human resource development.

Bilateral negotiations are expected to cover MoUs and cooperation frameworks in agriculture, fisheries, civil aviation, local government modernization, environmental conservation, and skill development. The two leaders will also address regional stability, energy security, and sustainable solutions for the Rohingya humanitarian crisis.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including his spouse Dr. Zubaida Rahman, the Finance Minister, the Adviser to the Ministry of Finance and Planning, the State Minister-1 for Foreign Affairs, the State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, the Adviser for Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology, the Chairman of the Invest Bangladesh Authority, and Special Assistants to the Prime Minister.
