Dhaka will introduce a new bus operating system from November 1, under which multiple transport operators will jointly run services on six major routes as part of the government’s ‘One Route, One Company’ initiative to improve public transport discipline and reduce traffic congestion.
The initial phase will cover five non-AC routes and one AC route: Gazipur–Dhakeshwari Temple, Gabtoli–Demra, Duaripara–Sadarghat, Ghatar Char–Demra, Ghatar Char–Kanchpur and Mirpur-12–Mawa.
The Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) has also planned to introduce three additional circular routes two months after the initial rollout.
Authorities have directed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and the two city corporations to identify bus stops, establish ticket counters, remove illegal footpath encroachments and clear unauthorised battery-powered rickshaws.
