The second shipment of uranium fuel reached the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna under tight security around 10AM on Wednesday (October 21), with the Bangladesh Army supervising the convoy.

The fuel convoy left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 5AM and reached the project site about five hours later, Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asaduzzaman Rahman confirmed.

Army personnel, police, intelligence agency members and other security forces escorted the convoy, while personnel were deployed at key points along the route.

According to sources, nine shipments of nuclear fuel are planned for the plant. Seven are intended for its second unit and two for refuelling the first unit. All shipments are targeted for delivery by December.

If preparations are completed on schedule, the country’s first nuclear power plant could begin supplying 200–300 megawatts of electricity to the national grid on a trial basis by December, project engineers and officials said.
