US President Donald Trump has ruled out a military strike on Iran on Sunday (October 25), stepping back from earlier threats of possible military action against Tehran, according to Anadolu Agency.
Speaking to reporters before leaving the White House for a campaign event in Michigan, Trump said there would be no attack on Iran that day.
Earlier on Sunday, Trump issued an ultimatum to Tehran, suggesting the possibility of military action. In an interview with Fox News, he said Washington faced a choice between reaching a deal with Iran and eliminating the country entirely.
Trump also claimed that US forces had established full control over the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that Iran was gaining nothing from the strategic waterway.
On Saturday (October 24), Trump had indicated that Washington could either launch another military operation against Iran or reach an agreement with Tehran. However, he expressed doubts about whether Iran would honour any potential commitments.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran ahead of the US midterm elections in early November.
