A three-member delegation led by International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Director in Bangladesh Max Tuñón paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister’s Adviser on Public Administration Md Ismail Zabiullah on Monday.
The meeting was held at the adviser’s office at the Secretariat in Dhaka, where they discussed employment opportunities at home and abroad, workers’ welfare, skills development, social protection, preparations for graduation from the least developed country (LDC) status, and the impact of artificial intelligence and automation on workplaces.
Zabiullah said the government was working to expand employment opportunities, ensure workers’ welfare and develop a skilled workforce in line with labour market demands.
He stressed the need to adapt the labour market to technological changes and improve workers’ skills and productivity, noting that the ILO could provide technical assistance and policy advice in these areas.
Tuñón emphasised improving employment quality, creating jobs in coastal areas, skills development, afforestation and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. He also called for stronger coordination among ministries and expressed interest in supporting the Prime Minister’s Office’s Governance Innovation Unit (GIU).
The meeting was also attended by Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr Md Saimum Parvez, GIU Director General Dr Delwar Hossain and senior ILO officials.
