The government will fast-track the recruitment of headteachers for around 34,500 vacant posts in government primary schools, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj said on Monday (October 26).
He said the ministry would hold discussions with the Public Service Commission (PSC) to expedite the recruitment process, alongside advancing the promotion of experienced assistant teachers to headteacher positions.
The state minister disclosed the plans while speaking to journalists after visiting two government primary schools in Old Dhaka.
He said filling the vacant posts would help strengthen the administrative functioning of primary schools.
As headteacher posts fall under Grade 10, recruitment must be conducted through the PSC, making coordination with the commission necessary to speed up the process.
Meanwhile, a court ruling has cleared the way for promotions after nearly 13 years of legal complications, creating opportunities for more than 36,000 assistant teachers to be promoted to headteacher positions.
Hajjaj said the government was prioritising the promotion of experienced and skilled teachers, with necessary administrative steps underway under existing recruitment rules.
Recently, 14,384 assistant teachers were recruited to government primary schools and have already joined their respective institutions.
